From the red earth of the Western Cape to the speckled clay of Polokwane, every journey leaves a quiet trace in the work.

Care Instructions: Every KILS piece is made to be used and enjoyed every day. Like all handmade ceramics, it will reward a little extra care and become part of the rhythm of your home. Dishwasher- and microwave-safe, although gentle hand washing is recommended. Avoid sudden temperature changes. Store with care to minimise knocks and chips.

The Making Process

This bowl began with 4 kg of stoneware clay and was thrown and trimmed by hand on the potter's wheel. The handles were pulled separately and attached by hand. The bowl was then left to dry slowly for several days before being bisque-fired to 1040°C. Once cooled, the piece was hand-painted in a high-fire glaze. Then returned to the kiln and fired to 1260°C, creating a strong, durable, non-porous, food-safe finish. Finally, the foot was carefully sanded by hand to leave a smooth surface that feels gentle against the table.
