- Every KILS piece is made to be used and enjoyed every day. Like all handmade ceramics, it will reward a little extra care and become part of the rhythm of your home. Dishwasher- and microwave-safe, although gentle hand washing is recommended. Avoid sudden temperature changes. Store with care to minimise knocks and chips.
The Story
Some pieces arrive exactly as they're meant to be. Others ask to be shaped more than once. This jug is one of those. After an early version revealed its weaknesses through use, its form was refined—a lighter body, a stronger handle, a gentler balance. It carries the memory of that first design, but also the lesson that good objects are not made by perfection alone, but by paying attention.
The Making Process
Each jug begins with 3,5 kg of stoneware clay and is thrown and trimmed by hand on the potter's wheel. The handle is pulled separately and attached by hand. The jugs are then left to dry slowly for several days before being bisque-fired to 1040°C. Once cooled, each piece is hand-dipped in a high-fire glaze. They are then returned to the kiln and fired to 1260°C, creating a strong, durable, non-porous, food-safe finish. Finally, the foot of each jug is carefully sanded by hand to leave a smooth surface that feels gentle against the table.
