- Every KILS piece is made to be used and enjoyed every day. Like all handmade ceramics, it will reward a little extra care and become part of the rhythm of your home. Dishwasher- and microwave-safe, although gentle hand washing is recommended. Avoid sudden temperature changes. Store with care to minimise knocks and chips.
The Story
Simple objects deserve careful attention. The KILS mug has been refined over time into a form that sits comfortably in the hand, with a generous handle and a balanced shape made for everyday rituals.
The Making Process
Each mug begins with 275 g of stoneware clay and is thrown and trimmed by hand on the potter's wheel. The handle is pulled separately and attached by hand. The mugs are then left to dry slowly for several days before being bisque-fired to 1040°C. Once cooled, each piece is hand-dipped in a transparent high-fire glaze that allows the natural beauty of the clay to remain visible. They are then returned to the kiln and fired to 1260°C, creating a strong, durable, non-porous, food-safe finish. Finally, the foot of each mug is carefully sanded by hand to leave a smooth surface that feels gentle against the table.
